Transbay Terminal Design Called Inadequate
California transportation officials warn the design for a new Transbay Terminal in San Francisco, the so-called Grand Central Terminal of the West, will be inadequate to the planned California High-Speed Rail line, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. In addition, they say there are serious engineering challenges to extend the Caltrain commuter line from its current terminal to Transbay in downtown San Francisco. Officials hope to resolve the problems so they can compete for funds from the recently enacted economic stimulus package.
