Talk is cheap. There's plenty of talk about funding high-speed rail initiatives as part of the plan to invest in infrastructure to reinvigorate the U.S. economy. However, according to the Midwest High Speed Rail Association, there is only $100 million earmarked for high-speed rail in current economic stimulus proposals.
The association has begun a campaign to bring that figure up to $5 billion. More information is available on its website.
This may be the most favorable environment we'll ever have to push Congress to get serious about high-speed rail in the United States. But it will only happens if our representatives in Washington see that American people truly want it. So if you care about high-speed rail, DO SOMETHING, DAMMIT! Go to their website and take action.
